The National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD) is a member-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization consisting of 55 state and territorial Councils. NACDD represents the diverse interests of the Councils and serves as their national voice. NACDD’s purpose is to support the Councils: (1) in their role of implementing the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, (2) in their role in promoting the interests and rights of people with developmental disabilities and their families, and (3) in their role as change agents working towards positive systemic change on behalf of persons with developmental disabilities.
NACDD is governed by an eleven-member Board of Directors. Current staffing includes five positions. The organization’s current budget is $824,000. Funding sources include membership dues, conferences, contracts and contributions. More information on NACDD may be found at www.nacdd.org.
An ideal candidate for this position will bring a variety of experiences and attributes to NACDD, including:
- A minimum of five years experience in senior organizational management positions with a demonstrated capacity to lead a fast-paced and complex organization (including operational, fiscal and human resources management).
- Experience with membership organizations, ideally with exposure to policies, programs and support of people with developmental disabilities, including policy and practices of inclusiveness. Experience with a Developmental Disabilities Council is a plus.
- A facilitative, consensus-building leadership style with a track record of building and maintaining strong working relationships with internal (staff and board) and external stakeholders. Experience with the Policy Governance model of organizational governance is a plus.
- Strong and effective written and oral communication skills, as well as excellent public-speaking skills.
- High energy and initiative with an ability to exercise prudent, independent judgment.
- Graduate degree in a relevant professional discipline. Five years of increasingly responsible experience may substitute for graduate degree.
- Ability to travel extensively within the Washington, D.C. area and some overnight, out-of-state travel are required.
Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience. NACDD offers a competitive salary and benefits package that is comparable to other associations with similar size and budget.

The Vice President reports to the President. The Vice President shall, in the absence of the President, perform the duties and exercise the powers of the President, and shall perform such
other duties as specified below:
Overall Management
The Vice President supports TheArcLink's mission, and is familiar with all aspects of its operation. During the initial period of employment, the Vice President will participate in extension orientation and
training by the President. At the end of training, the Vice President will assume responsibility for the daily operation of TheArcLink: responding to online inquiries, conducting webinars to participating providers and to Roommates users. The Vice President will work jointly with the President on marketing communications to states and to providers. The Vice President will attend board meetings as a nonvoting
member.
Marketing
Marketing activities include communicating via email, training webinars and direct personal contact to participating providers, potential participating providers, Roommates users, representatives of new
potential state subscribers to Roommates, potential funders for the National FindFamily Registry and potential underwriters and supporters for TheArcLink in general. The Vice President will also staff exhibits
at state and national meetings as requested by the President.
Product Development
TheArcLink periodically develops new products in response to consumer demand or perceived market gap. Key to development are regular conversations with stakeholders, knowledge of the market niche, focus group results, and a knowledge of TheArcLink's internal engineering capacity to develop specific applications. Since the initial launch of TheArcLink in 2000, these new products have been developed and introduced: The TheArcLink Calendar, the Medicaid Reference Desk, MyPlan (an online individual needs assessment in conjunction with the Medicaid Reference Desk), Roommates and the National FindFamily Registry.
TheArcLink also hosts the websites of other disability organization on request. The Vice President will be a key participant in the process of all new product development, and will serve as the lead contact for new
products as assigned by the President.
Supervision
The Vice President has no supervisory duties, except when functioning as the President.
Required Skills
* Advanced verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to function productively in a small team environment that includes the President, engineering staff and interns, and bookkeeping interns
* Knowledgeable user of Adobe DreamWeaver and all Microsoft Office 2007 applications
* More advanced technical IT engineering skills are not required
* Orientation to and familiarity with the field of cognitive disabilities
