I Welcome

A. Letter from the Commissioner of the Administration on Developmental Disabilities

The Administration on Developmental Disabilities is pleased to present this Executive Director Orientation Guide. The Guide is designed to help you fulfill your duties and responsibilities as the Director of a State Council on Developmental Disabilities.

Councils are the authorities in the states for information on trends, issues, programs and service system analysis for individuals with developmental disabilities. As the Executive Director of a Council, you:

  • have the obligation to utilize effective organizational and management strategies,
  • need to be knowledgeable of State plan, reporting, performance measurement, consumer satisfaction, and other DD Act requirements, and
  • must collaborate with other agencies, organizations, and advocates to have a positive impact on the lives of people with developmental disabilities.

This Guide has information and resources that will help in all of these areas.

As the Commissioner of ADD I hope you find this Guide informative and helpful. Please take the time to fill out the Evaluation and let us know your thoughts and recommendations on the Guide.

Best of luck to you in your position as State Council Executive Director.

Sincerely,

Commissioner Patricia A. Morrissey, Ph.D.
